You have a legitimate concern, as the exhaust tends to heat up grime on your bumper/tails, so when you wash, the mere scraping will scratch up your tails. Anyone who has clayed their rear bumper knows about this phenomenon. Pay extra attention to waxing the center panel, as the scratches will stand out a HELL of a lot more the black background. If you open your trunk using your key, or you utilize the trunk a lot, theres another hazard of scratching around the hole and leaning against the tails themselves while loading/unloading t-tops, crap etc. I wouldnt go as far as to clear bra it, since you wont be encountering rock chips. If you dont care about the cash, go for it. A compound every year or so will keep your tails looking brand new, though. Dont stress it.
